The beehive panel is the name used for the painted plank that adorned the front of the Carniolan beehives. They appeared in the middle of the 18th century mainly in the Slovenian Alpine area; their use was most widespread in the second half of the 19th century. The motifs painted by ordinary people are from everyday life, religion, devils, stories … More than 600 different motifs are known, about half of which are religious. Recently, painted beehive panels have become popular among collectors and performers (home handicrafts, souvenirs …). The largest collection of beehive panels is located in the Beekeeping Museum in Radovljica, Slovenia.
